During November and December the book authored by Dr. Dejan Bursać, a research fellow at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, titled “Fundamentals of Electoral System Reform: The Case of Serbia” was presented at public events in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
In his monograph, Bursać examines the evolution of Serbia’s electoral system, current issues with specific electoral rules, and key points for potential reform. The author consolidates these issues into a single work, discussing each from a comparative perspective and offering a range of potential institutional solutions to the various problems in Serbia’s electoral process.
The Belgrade presentation, hosted at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, featured speakers including Dr. Gazela Pudar Draško, Senior Research Fellow (IFDT), Dr. Jelena Vasiljević, Senior Research Fellow (IFDT), Prof. Dr. Milan Jovanović (Faculty of Political Sciences), and Prof. Dr. Dušan Vučićević (Faculty of Political Sciences).
The Novi Sad event took place at the Faculty of Law and Business Studies “Dr. Lazar Vrkatić”, with contributions from Prof. Dr. Duško Radosavljević (FLV), Prof. Dr. Dušan Vučićević (Faculty of Political Sciences), Assistant Prof. Dr. Nikola Jović (Faculty of Political Sciences), and Tara Tepavac, Research Associate (IFDT).
Both discussions centered on analyzing potential institutional solutions, particularly those aimed at increasing the personalization of the electoral system and enhancing the accountability of elected representatives to citizens. The panels also explored the feasibility of reform in the near future, as well as the overall purpose of changing electoral rules within a fundamentally undemocratic political context.
