Cultural Approach to Peacebuilding: Projects and Institutions While peacebuilding has grown into a vigorous political practice of international and private actors since 1950s, we can now observe what might be described as a cultural turn in the studies of post-conflict reconstruction. The analyses of reconstruction and peacebuilding prioritized economic (infrastructural reconstruction) and political (administration) dimensions of post-conflict situation. It was assumed that psychological traumas, moral dilemmas, and cognitive dissonances could be dealt with later. Both the projects and the studies of post- conflict reconstruction were premised on the culturally specific conceptualizations of conflict and peace, which neglected the diversity of interpretations of and attitudes to conflict-peace relation in various cultures. We invite contributors to reflect on philosophical and political justifications of peacebuilding and propose the following guiding questions:
- What models or schemas of conceptualizing peace and conflict exist in various philosophical traditions?
- What alternative approaches to peacebuilding can be identified and how their efficiency can be assessed?
- How can different cultural practices of contestation, dispute resolution, reconciliation contribute to peacebuilding?
- How can alternative cultural interpretations of conflict and peace underpin theories and practices of peacebuilding?
