Award Ceremony “Miladin Životić” for Marija Todorova
On Friday, December 20, at noon, Marija Todorova will receive the annual award from the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory for her critical-theoretical engagement in the Grand Hall of the University of Belgrade Rectorate. Named after the distinguished philosopher Miladin Životić, the award recognizes leading theorists whose work has a significant impact on social practice.
Following the award ceremony, Todorova will deliver a lecture titled “Do the Balkans Need Their Own Epistemology?”
Marija Todorova is one of the world’s most prominent historians and theorists of Balkan origin. In her works, she has analyzed the centuries-long tradition of portraying the Balkans in the West as inferior and has actively opposed these stereotypes, advocating for an equal, inclusive, and culturally sensitive perspective on the Balkans and its peoples.
