[Panel discussion] How to Achieve Social Protection that Meets Citizens’ Needs? (ActiveLab)
Application of Civic Assemblies in Formulating Recommendations for Improving Procedures for Accessing Material Benefits – Invitation to Promote the Results of Civic Assemblies
Association A 11 – Initiative for Economic and Social Rights, in collaboration with the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade and the Ministry of Space, is organizing a panel discussion titled ‘How to Achieve Social Protection that Meets Citizens’ Needs?’ The event will take place on December 13, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, Kraljice Natalije 45, 4th floor, Belgrade.
Civic assemblies aim to involve citizens directly affected by certain political decisions in informed discussions and the formulation of these political decisions. Civic assemblies are institutionalized in various European countries at local and national levels and represent a response to the problem of contemporary democracies and democratic practices, where citizens are not sufficiently involved in the process of formulating and making political decisions that affect their lives.
Recognizing that the participation of the most vulnerable citizens is completely absent, even concerning the formulation of social protection policies, during 2022 and 2023, we organized civic assemblies in Šabac, Novi Sad, and Belgrade. These assemblies aimed to formulate proposals for improving the procedure for accessing financial social assistance through informed discussions.
At the panel discussion to which we invite you, the method of civic assemblies, its application in the field of social protection, and recommendations for improving procedures for accessing material benefits formulated by users and potential users of the social protection system will be presented.
