[Panel discussion] Serbia-Croatia dialogue: New Perspectives
🗓 Nov 7 🕒 18:00 CET 🔹 Media Center Belgrade
The relationship between the political and intellectual elites of Serbia and Croatia is based on mutual animosity. Almost three decades after the war ended, Serbia and Croatia perpetuate the condition of „frozen conflict“. Oftentimes, one may hear that the two countries have unresolved issues, which makes numerous topics for dialogue still open. Everyday life, however, shows that each ‚“open topic“ is rather closed, for both sides, which seems like no space for improvement in the relationship between the two countries and their societies.
This panel represents a part of a wider series of conversations which aims at launching the process of reopening subjects that had been closed by nationalist perceptions and put ad acta. We want to start searching for the fields upon which social, cultural and historical interconnection between two nations can give birth to a better future for both societies. On this panel, specifically, Media Center and Belgrade will host historians and politicians from Serbia and Croatia, among which are Hrvoje Klasić, Dubravka Stojanović, Katarina Peović, Petar Mamula, Tomislav Žigmanov and Nebojša Novaković. Through the exchange of opinions on relevant topics related to the Serbian – Croatian relationship, the participants will try to contribute to removing the barriers between the two countries which have been especially imposed in the past ten years. The aim of this round table is enriching the cooperation and, apart from the participants, the active contribution will be given also by the moderator, Filip Balunovic from the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade.
