If it hadn’t been obvious before, the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made it painfully clear that human beings are needy and vulnerable creatures who depend on one another for physical and emotional care; moreover, it has intensified various troubling inequalities that exist both at the nation-state and at the global level. What are the implications of recognizing vulnerability and dependence for moral deliberation? What does justice require in times of global crises such as the one we have been living through for the past year? How do we take the ethics of care outside of the private sphere and use it to revitalize our commitments to equal moral worth and a liveable life on a planet in crisis?
