In 2021, the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory of the University of Belgrade established the “Zagorka Golubović” Award, aimed at younger researchers for their socially engaged research work. The award is presented for the best text published in a scholarly journal or a collection of papers that takes an engaged approach to regional (Southeastern Europe) or broader social issues..

The Award Committee reviewed all submitted applications and unanimously proposed Đurica Stojanović, a Junior Researcher at the Faculty of Philosophy in Niš, as the laureate of the 2025 “Zagorka Golubović” annual award for his work: “Civil Disobedience or Not – The Case of Road Blockades in Serbia” published in the journal Godišnjak za sociologiju (The Sociological Annual), Vol. 20, No. 32.

The award-winning paper by Đurica Stojanović analyses the protests from November and December 2021, which were directed against the adoption of the new Law on Referendum and People’s Initiative and amendments to the Law on Expropriation. The text explores whether these actions constituted a justified act of civil disobedience or not, from the perspective of Rawlsian theory and argumentation. In addition to its high quality and scientific originality, the work responds to the current political situation in Serbia and contributes to reflections on extra-institutional political action and the struggle for justice and democracy, highlighting that blockades can be a justified and effective form of protest against unjust policies, laws, or practices.

Congratulations to the laureate of the 2025 “Zagorka Golubović” Award!
