Lecture by Goran Marković: “Film and Money in Socialism and Capitalism”
Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Goran Marković, will give a lecture at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory (IFDT) on the topic “Film and Money in Socialism and Capitalism.”
Marković, one of the most prominent contemporary Serbian filmmakers and film theorists, will analyze the relationship between cinematic art and economic power through the lens of two distinct social systems in which he has lived and worked – socialism and capitalism. In this discussion, the speaker will focus on how the financial framework shapes film production, creative processes, and audience engagement in different political and economic contexts. Additionally, the lecture will address the impact of market laws and state policies on the film industry, as well as the ways in which film, as an artistic expression, is subjected to economic and political interests in both socio-economic formations.
Following Professor Marković’s introduction, there will be a discussion with researchers from the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, sociologist Srđan Prodanović, and historian Predrag Žarković. The event will be moderated by sociologist Dušanka Milosavljević.
The lecture is open to all interested parties and will provide an opportunity for collective reflection on the cultural, social, and political dimensions of film as an art form.
