PerspectLab – The Laboratory for the Theory, Creation and Politics of Space is envisioned as the intersection of interdisciplinary approaches to the study of space. The expert Lab team comprises researchers from the fields of philosophy, architecture, art history, cultural heritage, urban studies, sociology and anthropology, who aim to provide a holistic and comprehensive study of both local and global dynamics of common living in urban settings. The Lab is focused on the spatial conditions of sociality, that is, the city as the spatial archetype of social life.
The three terms that give the Laboratory for the Theory, Creation and Politics of Space its title represent an attempt at a socially engaged study of space. The sequence theory – creation – politics could indicate an underlying methodology as an alternative to conceptual-contextual discursive divisions.
The research conducted within the Lab will be presented at conferences, in lectures, seminars, and summer schools. It will also unfold in a dialogic form – through debates, round tables and workshops – with the public at large, thus inviting all concerned citizens to become part of the discussions about the future of cities and space.
One of the aims of PerspectLab is to strengthen existing and develop new contacts across the academic community through scientific projects and through regional and global international networking.
Among PerspectLab’s main collaborators is DeltaLab of the University of Rijeka, with whom both members of the Lab and the Institute already have a strong connection.
A special place in the Lab’s activities is the publication Chorein: Journal for Architecture and Philosophy, which endeavours to deepen the dialogue between these two scientific disciplines.
