Monique Canto-Sperber is the President of the Foundation Paris Sciences et Lettres. She studied at the École normale supérieure, is Professor of philosophy and was heading this institution from 2005 to 2012. Professor Canto-Sperber has been president of various research organizations and has organized numerous scientific conferences. Over the last fifteen or so years, her work has for the most part been devoted to moral philosophy and contemporary politics, as well as the reflection on the social and ethical aspects of contemporary sciences. She has published many papers in these fields, including the following: La Philosophie morale britannique, 1994 (British philosophy of morality), Le Dictionnaire d’ethique et de philosophie morale, 1996 (Dictionary of ethics and moral philosophy), L’Inquiétude morale et la vie humaine, 2001 (Moral fear and human life), Le libéralisme et la gauche, 2008 (Liberalism and the Left), Essai sur la vie humaine, 2008 (Essay on Human Life), Naissance et liberté, 2008 (Birth and Freedom, with Rene Friedman), Que peut l’éthique? 2008 (What can ethics do?), Vies et destins, 2009 (Lives and Destinies), La guerre juste, 2010 (Justified War). Monique Kanto-Speber is the winner of several university awards. She was awarded the orders of the Officer of the Legion of Honor and the Knight of Arts and Literature, the Officer of Merit. She is an associate member of the Royal Academy of Belgium.
