Chandran Kukathas completed his undergraduate studies in history and political science at the Australian National University, his master’s degree in politics at the University of New South Wales and his doctoral studies at Oxford. He has taught at the Royal Military College in Canberra, Oxford, the Australian National University, the University of New South Wales at the Australian Defense Forces Academy, and the University of Utah, where he was head of the Department of Political Theory at the Department of Political Science. His main research interests are the history of liberal thought, contemporary liberal theories and multiculturalism. Some of his most famous books are: The Liberal Archipelago; A Theory of Diversity and Freedom; E pluribus plurum, or, how to fail to get to utopia in spite of really trying; Why open borders?; Expatriatism: the theory and practice of open borders.
