Reinhard Mehring attended high school in Düsseldorf after which he studied philosophy, German studies and political science in Bonn and Freiburg and took on a referendary at a high school in Karlsruhe. In 1988 he got promoted at Wilhelm Hennis in Freiburg. Between 1989 and 2000 he worked at the universities in Düsseldorf and Würzburg as well as at the Humboldt University in Berlin where he habilitated. After this he was active as a private lecturer in Berlin and held up teaching positions in some schools in Düsseldorf. In 2007. he became a professor of political science and didactics of political science at a Pedagogical higher school in Heidelberg. He stands out with numerous publications that mostly deal with the history of ideas, he profiled himself as a researcher of the work of Carl Shmitt. He is a co-publisher of the “The Yearbook Political Thought” (Jahrbuch Politischis Denken).
