Rosemarie Tong is Distinguished Professor of Health Care Ethics at the University of North Carolina. She taught at Williams College from 1978 to 1988 and was Olmstead Visiting Professor of Philosophy and Women’s Studies at Lafayette College in 1993. She was selected as the 1986 National Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Until 1998 she was the Thatcher Professor in Philosophy and Medical Humanities at Davidson College. Tong has been a consultant to the ACLS, the Fulbright Foundation, the Hastings Center, the North Carolina Medical Society, the National Advisory Board on Ethics and Reproduction, and various curricular programs involving medical humanities bioethics and women’s studies. She has received grants from the Sloan, Ford, and Fullerton Foundations as well as the NEH. In addition, Tong is on the Ethics Committees of Presbyterian Hospital and Cabarrus Hospital and is a board member of the Bioethics Resource Group. She is the series editor of the Point/Counterpoint series and the New Feminist Perspecitves series from Rowman and Littlefield Press.
